
Apple cider vinegar is very common for fighting colds. It kills off bacteria that causes sore throats and an upset stomach, and dries up all the extra mucus that makes our noses stuffy and runny. ACV contains acetic acid, that’s why it helps so many harmful alkaline conditions.
Different parts of our bodies have very different PH levels, like saliva, urine, blood, and stomach fluid. Changing that balance in any one place can hugely affect everything else.
Just by changing the PH in your stomach you can wake up or put to sleep good bacteria that promotes digestion. This good bacteria thrives in an acidic environment, whereas bad bacteria– pathogens that make us sick– are killed. The gut is our “second immune system” and if it’s struggling to digest and balance the needed bacteria, we’re gonna get sick way more often.
ACV speeds up the breakdown of food for a more complete digestion, decreasing acid reflux or GERD, heartburn, and gas. All of these are a result of an unbalanced diet that lowers the acidity of our stomach fluid so that it’s too alkaline to actually digest. (Other acidic foods that change our stomach fluid for the better are things like naturally fermented pickles and sauerkraut!)
The chemical waste, guanidine, from a high-protein diet can also cause joint and muscle stiffness. The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar helps us fully digest protein with a lot less waste and guanidine being produced.
As people age they need more acid to be able to digest protein, and absorb minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, and vitamins like vitamin C, K, and B12. Elderly people who are too alkaline get soft tissue calcification where joints become stiff and arthritic, cataracts and gallbladder or kidney stones develop. This is calcium that is unable to be absorbed and properly used or stored because the body isn’t acidic enough.
ACV also makes glucose more sensitive so we have less insulin resistance, and boosting the PH in our bodies just a little can stimulate the thyroid, metabolism, white blood cells, and mobilize calcium- all of this helping with the immune system and even weight loss.
We can take just a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water each day to really help digestion and keep from getting sick often!
